Happy Holidays!

Wishing you many smiles,
Next year and beyond!

Dear Friends!

My team and I thank you for your wonderful visits and kindness over this past year. We love our patients and we love our work. We are grateful for the reviews that you share with us. The information motivates us, and we strive to create exceptional care for everyone.

Community is special. It is part of the fabric through which we grow and develop. It is the energy that we create around us that brings us to a higher place of consciousness, awareness and integration with the world. Whether it is with friends and family, in our workplace environment with colleagues, or in our own homes, our community helps us to be creative and more aware of the world around us.

Not only is community in our physical space, but it can also be created and accessed through technology, via the internet, our mobile devices, and social networking sites. All of this technology is very time consuming, and removing ourselves from it can be difficult; however, it can enrich our lives in so many ways. It has changed our world.

Life is a blend of our inner and outer worlds. We can access our inner world through meditation and awareness. Solitude, yoga or jogging allows us to go within ourselves and access more of our internal energies and intuition. Studies show that the more time spent in meditation, the more we enhance our calmness, wellness, awareness, and inner gratitude.

My team and I attend many seminars throughout the year. This year I was honoured to be appointed a Mentor at the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington. Their mandate is studying Advanced Dentistry through Science. It was a year-long process to qualify for this position. I also attended the yearly Kois Symposium in Seattle entitled Innovations in Ecosystems. Dr. Leyla Emami and I went to Lake Louise to learn about the Waterlase, and we are excited to utilize our new "Ferrari Red" laser in the practice. Dr. Urusa Ansari and Ljiljana went to Las Vegas for the Invisalign Summit in July. Rosemary travelled to California to attend the Concordia Bioenergetics Seminar. This December Drs. Leyla Emami and Bernie Gryfe joined me in California where we learned about a new procedure called the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique. It helps reposition receding gums. Dr. Chao describes his technique as easy, quick and instantly pleasing. We are very excited to explore, learn, and utilize new innovations.

Our 20+ year group includes Karen, Caron, Terri, Sharon and Sandy. Our 10+ year club includes Ljiljana, Lana, Margaret, Urusa and Patricia. We welcome Dr. Allen Aptekar, who now joins us a few days a month for specialized surgeries, including implant placement with the option of sedation. Allen was just awarded his Diplomate in Implantology, from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Monika has returned after the birth of her second baby girl, Mattea. Kinga will be rejoining us in the New Year after her maternity leave with Sophia. We welcome Tamar as an assistant and Nancy as a receptionist into our practice. Co-op students are welcomed at 1950 Yonge Street, they are an exceptional group, and we thank them for all of their help and enthusiasm.

Congratulations to Rosemary! Rosemary, who has been with me for the past 31 years, has just completed a 2 year program in Holistic Nutrition. Today more than ever we realize that our food is very important to our oral health, and it helps create and sustain a healthy acid/alkaline balance.

Today we are working with more new technology. Invisalign, iTero, Waterlase, Ozone and Digital Radiography are technologies that allow dentistry to be minimally invasive, maintaining the structural integrity of teeth.

Waterlase is our newest piece of technology. I have been working with lasers and teaching their applications since 1992. I love what lasers can do for us. They sterilize and allow us a clean field to work in, with little bleeding and minimal, if any, post operative discomfort. Waterlase, which uses a dual wavelength, is even gentler, as this laser light is transmitted through water. We can use it to prepare teeth in specific situations, without the use of the dental drill. It is fantastic for children! The Waterlase helps gum tissue and bone regeneration and healing time is accelerated. It also sterilizes root canals penetrating beyond infection by utilizing a 360° firing tip rather than projecting unidirectional. I will be lecturing about Waterlase, and will have before and after images to share with you. Taking dentistry to a new level is always exciting, as we strive to use the least invasive procedures possible.

This past summer I traveled to Croatia. It was an exceptional country to visit. Dubrovnik is a fantastic walled city, and is a UNESCO heritage site. What history! The people were so kind, and the food was delicious. It was very relaxing, and the northern part, Estonia, was spectacular. Each seaside town was more beautiful than the next. Croatia has so many islands along its coast that it filters sludge from the Adriatic Sea, providing a healthier environment for fish. Truffles, lavender, olive oil and seafood were abundant!

I have so much gratitude for the opportunity of working as a dentist. When I went to dental school I never thought that my love for my profession would grow every day. Having the ability to help sustain and maintain healthy mouths, and create beautiful smiles, has made dentistry a very important part of anti-aging. This is what makes my work so rewarding, along with the enjoyment of the community that surrounds me every day. My team members, and patients/clients who come to visit us, are now friends. Some have been with me for over 30 years, and I welcome and appreciate the new friendships being made.

It is a wonderful life. Life is a balance, and it is always best to think of the gifts we are given, rather than the few bumps along the way. My aim is for my clients to leave feeling healthier than when they came in. It is this commitment that keeps me engaged.

Blessings to all for this Holiday Season and for 2014. Never allow your memories to be greater than your dreams.

Dana and Team
